A resident attended a city council meeting and requested that a bulletin board be created for residents to discuss issues that concern them. Here it is.
How this bulletin board will be addressed by city staff and council members is yet to be determined.
If you have specific questions for city staff, call Village Hall at 448-5353. If you have questions for city council, attend a council meeting or email them via the address found on the city website.

I agree, I would like to see elected and appointed officials respond. I also agree that if you have a question, why not just call city hall?
This site provides a great opportunity for public debate. However, if the city and its residents want to have an honest public debate, it should establish some rules. First off, I'd recommend that participants (residents, officials, and staff) are required post their names - I can understand why someone would be reluctant to respond to a person that wants to remain anonomous. I also recommend that elected or appointed officials respond - not just staff.
I want to hear what the people that I elect or that are appointed to represent me have to say on an issue. It really bothers me so see someone called "staff" respond. I want to know who is saying what and to be accountible for what they say.
I don't know if I am the person that "staff" is refering to, but I've been after the city to find better ways to keep residents informed and to provide input on what's happening at city hall. It's shameful, in this information era, that government is not doing a better job at getting information to its residents. While the City of Carver is doing a better job than most governmental bodies, it's got much further to go.
I suspect that the council and planning commission are trying to make the best decisions they can, but without public input, they are likely to follow the advice of paid consultants or their own (sometimes uninformed) opinions.
I think the question about water rates deserves an answer. Water is generally a money maker for a city - if you reduce rates, would property taxes need to be increased? What's the rationale? I don't think the question is posted to "bait" elected official; it deserves an answer. Being dismissive, autocratic, or totally ignoring a resident's concern is bad government.
We also need to let residents hear from their elected officials about other issues that will affect residents(AND VICE VERSA). How many residents are aware of the Comprehensive Plan currently being developed by consultants? This plan will have long range impact on city ordiances, streets, land use, natural resource protection, and the overall quality of life in the city. Yet the Comp Planning Task Force is mostly attended by township residents and developers.
How about the new bluff and tree ordinance that limits what homeowners can do in their backyard but exempts the city and any other governmental unit from its own rules (do as I say, not as I do... Whatever...
Let me close my rant by saying again - I want to hear from elected officials. I will not vote for anyone that will not participate in this opportunity for public debate.

We apologize for the misunderstanding. At the 9/5 Carver City Council Meeting, the city council asked that it be understood that this is a comment/opinion page and if you have a question for a city hall staff member, please go into the website's "city contact information" tab and click on a staff member you are needing an answer from. City staff is not monitoring the bulletin boards on a daily basis. http://www.cityofcarver.com/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={C213EDC7-4E8E-4D77-B722-516BFE9B1860}
The mayor of Carver also indicated at the meeting that he tried to answer a few questions this weekend but was having trouble getting his comments to post.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
